Skateboarding Mice

A specially-trained mouse named Harvey rides a skateboard while sailing through a "ring-of-fire." Shane Willmott of Australia built a skate park in his backyard and trained his pet mice to ride on mouse-sized toy skateboards and perform amazing stunts. Shane has been training mice for nearly 30 years and has shown that they are also excellent surfers.

Aurora, a three-year-old female polar bear, eats a carrot underwater in a pool in its new open air cage at the Royev Ruchey zoo on the suburbs of Russia's Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk in August 2013. Aurora and her sister, Victoria, were found without their mother in Russia's Taymyr Peninsula on the Arctic Ocean coast in May 2010, and were later brought to the zoo in Krasnoyarsk.

A young male deer with a hunter's arrow in its neck is seen just before it was given care by New Jersey wildlife officials in early November 2013. The arrow was removed successfully while the deer was tranquilized. It was later released into the wild with no major injury to arteries or organs.

Once found across South Australia, the Tammar is one of the smallest wallabies, weighing between 6 and 9 kg and about the size of a rabbit. They are now found in the wild only on offshore Kangaroo Island.

A purebred Icelandic horse runs free in a field of blooming lupine flowers in Iceland in early summer 2013. The Icelandic horse (sometimes called a pony) has been conditioned and trained in demanding and harsh conditions, including severe weather and volcanic activity, for over 1000 years. Hardy and easy to keep, Icelandic horses can often be ridden well into their 20's.
