They are one of the fastest and most efficient predators on the planet: Sharks. He is the greatest champion to ever get in the water: Michael Phelps. 39 world records. 23 Olympic golds. But he has one competition left to win. An event so monumental no one has ever attempted it before. The world's most decorated athlete takes on the ocean's most efficient predator: Phelps Vs Shark: Great Gold Vs Great White - the race is on!
Phelps Vs Shark: Great Gold Vs Great White will air as part of A Bite of Shark Week, exclusive to Discovery Channel on July 29 and 30. A Bite of Shark Week will also feature Phelps in the documentary Shark School with Michael Phelps, in which he will get a crash course on everything "shark." Doc Gruber and Tristan Guttridge of the Bimini Shark Lab will dispel myths and common misconceptions, teach Phelps how to safely dive with sharks - including how to stay calm when a hammerhead swims two feet above his face - and will get the Olympic champion up close and personal with the incredible power of a great white.
Will the greatest human swimmer of all time be fast enough to beat an animal that can swim at speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour? To find out, be watching Phelps Vs Shark: Great Gold Vs Great White during A Bite of Shark Week, airing Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July.
