How Do They Do It?
Diamond Mine, Skyscraper, Car Crusher

As the modern world becomes increasingly sophisticated and mechanised, we grow further removed from the way things are made and how things are done - from the miraculous feats of engineering which underpin life in the 21st Century. As we reveal in HOW DO THEY DO IT?, our comfortable modern way of life relies on a great army of clanking, buzzing giant robot slaves hidden from view, in factories, down mines, up mountains and beneath the ocean. It relies on the problem-solving genius of engineers and the vision of industrial designers who are constantly striving to make things faster, cheaper, better. Each section in HOW DO THEY DO IT? works backwards from something which is familiar, to something quite out of the ordinary. Each story takes us behind the scenes to show how to do the things and make the things that form the modern world. Each episode reveals the hidden story behind another familiar part of our lives. HOW DO THEY DO IT? is about engineering and scientific miracles and the people whose ability to solve problems make them happen.

The FBI Files
Desperate Agenda

On July 3, 1986, a man donning a Lincoln-esque beard, hat and sunglasses strolls into a bank in Abilene, TX. Once inside, he heads directly for the bank teller and leaps onto the counter. He pulls out a .38 caliber revolver and fires it twice into the ceiling. The gunman announces that this is a robbery and demands that everyone lie down and keep their eyes on the ground. He jumps onto the other side of the counter and menacingly points the revolver at the manager's face. He then pulls out a duffel bag and orders her to fill it with cash while cursing and screaming for her to move faster. Overcome with fear, the manager freezes. The robber becoming agitated, fires a bullet in her leg. As she writhes in pain, the shooter cleans out the rest of the drawers and dashes out the door. When authorities arrive at the scene, the gunman is nowhere to be found. Witnesses are unable to describe the robber or even tell investigators how he escaped. Responding FBI agents discuss two prior bank heists that occurred recently in the Dallas area and speculate that there's a possible connection.
