Air Rescue goes inside the high stakes world and real-life drama of the rescue crews from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Run by the Surf Life Saving Association, the service has performed over 70,000 rescue missions since inception in 1973. It’s the oldest civilian search and rescue service in Australia covering 84% of the population in the summer months.
Air Rescue follows the crucial work of the brave rescue crews and the life or death decisions they have to make on a daily basis. Fly with the pilots, aircrews and intensive care paramedics as they race to help Australians in crisis.
The series highlights what happens when humanity collides with the beautiful but harsh Australian landscape. Each episode sees the crews face off against natural adversaries: the environment, the weather, personal jeopardy, and time-critical stakes. These lifesaving missions will take you from the bush canopy and ocean waves, to critical highway disasters, remote farms, jagged cliff tops, and more.
Capturing the action as it happens, each story is told through the eyes of the rescuers as they enter the lives of ordinary Australians in need.
